Rain halts play in Christchurch, New Zealand. Before play was halted by rain in the third One-Day International against India in Christchurch, Devon Conway and Finn Allen had New Zealand in a dominant position. Before the umpires yelled for the covers, New Zealand was batting and had reached 104/1 after 18 overs. A decision must be made after at least 20 overs.
Washington Sundar can be thanked by India. It was that “wonderful” innings that allowed India to surpass its previous scoring record of 180 and reach 200. In the third one-day international against New Zealand, India batted first and amassed 219 runs in 47.3 overs before being bowled out thanks to a valiant effort from Washington Sundar, who came in at number seven and scored 51 runs off 64 balls. India was put in to bat after New Zealand won the toss.
In the Indian batting order, only Shreyas Iyer (49 off 59 balls) stood out in addition to Washington Sundar. Only 39 runs were accumulated for the first wicket by captain Shikhar Dhawan (28) and Shubman Gill (11). The Kiwis’ pursuit of a wicket began when Adam Milne dismissed Gill in the ninth over. None of the people who arrived after Shreyas and Washington could make a substantial contribution. Wicket keeper Rishabh Pant, who finished fourth, was still dissatisfied with his performance today. Suryakumar Yadav also struggled, hitting just six out of ten balls.
