After holding them in jail and questioning them about the incident, the police made four arrests of Italian nationals. Along with the detention of Greek socialist leader Eva Kaili, Italian arrests were also documented. Their data has not been made public.
The Greek Socialist President tweeted that they had been kicked out of the party after being arrested. And the European Parliament has stripped them of their authority. At the same time, 16 locations in Brussels saw police seize 600,000 euros. Mobile phones and other items have been seized by the police from these locations. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The Gulf nation allegedly tried to sway votes in the European Parliament by giving gifts or money, according to Belgian authorities. The World Cup host nation of Qatar is making significant attempts to repair its reputation in the wake of criticism regarding worker and human rights standards.
Accusations of corruption surrounding the FIFA members’ vote to give the tournament to the Gulf nation have also tainted Qatar’s World Cup. Officials from Qatar claim that their administration is unaware of the European probe. Officials have stated that the allegations against Qatar are untrue and that they behaved in total accordance with all applicable international rules and regulations.
