Covid-19 wave appears again over Europe as winter arrives, public health experts warn about vaccine shortage. The experts are in confusion over types of available vaccines that will limit the booster uptake.
The Omicron sub-variance BA4 and 5 that dominated this summer are still behind majority of infection. According to WHO, newer Omicron variants are gaining ground in Europe. WHO also says hundreds of new Omicron variants are being discovered by scientists.
According to the data released by WHO cases reached to 1.5 million in the European Union last week. This is an hike of eight percent from the prior week even after dramatic fall in testing.
Globally case numbers continue to decline but hospitalization numbers across many EU as well as the UK have increased. Earlier Covid-19 hospitalization in UK saw a 45 percent increase. Omicron vaccines have launched in Europe with two types of shots addressing the BA1, BA4 & BA5.
Meanwhile in Britain only BA1 shots have been given the permission now. European & British officials have been endorsed the latest boosters only for elderly and people with compromised immune system.
